It will certainly go down as one of the more bizarre title clinching games in baseball history...only the final 3 and a half innings of Monday's game was played tonight. But the Phillies emerged victorious. Philly in general and the Phillies in particular have their critics, and I'm sure they'll find ways to diminish their win. But like it or not, the Phillies are your World Series champions!

Philadelphia finally got a HUGE monkey off its back. For 25 years the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Sixers won no titles. As you might expect, the city erupted in celebration. It was telling to see so many young people...almost nobody under 30 has any conscious memories of of a title and a parade in this town. But most of all, it's a big boost for a city that's been struggling in so many ways in recent years.

Ironically, I wanted to move to Boston earlier this year. If I did that, I would have arrived too late to celebrate the Red Sox 2007 title and I would have missed out on the Phillies 2008 win. So I guess everything happens for a reason.
